Engineering Solutions for Sustainability: Materials and Resources (ESS:M&R 3) Symposium and Workshop (2.18-19, 2017, * Denver, Colorado, USA)

Engineering Solutions for Sustainability: Materials and
Resources (ESS: M&R 3) Symposium

The ESS:M&R3 Symposium will be held in conjunction with the 2017 SME Annual Conference & Expo and CMA 119th National Western Mining Conference February 18-19, 2017 at the Hyatt Regency at Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado.

With impending and burgeoning societal challenges affecting both developed and emerging nations, the global engineering community has a responsibility and an opportunity to truly make a difference by contributing to sustainable development through engineering solutions. This symposium will focus on approaches for providing the resources and materials needed to meet basic societal needs in critical areas of minerals and metals, energy, water, transportation and housing through the circular economy, which is an alternative to a traditional linear economy (make, use, dispose).

In the circular economy resources are used for as long as possible with the goal of extracting maximum value from them while in use. And, at the end of service life, they are recovered, reused, recycled, or stockpiled until economically viable recycling technologies are available. The importance of recycling resource efficiency and intersecting life cycles will be examined for materials and manufacturing sustainability within areas of societal need.

Registrants for the 2017 SME Annual Conference & Expo, CMA 119th National Western Mining Conference and the ESS:M&R3, will receive a significantly reduced registration fee for ESS:M&R3. Additionally, registration for the symposium will include:

  • Electronic proceedings of the symposium
  • Networking reception
  • All hosted breakfasts
  • All hosted luncheons
  • Symposium technical sessions
