The fourth in a series, the 2014 Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Workshop will address the latest developments in applied advanced processing techniques. Presentations by leading researchers from academia, industry, and government will focus on applied research suitable for implementation in manufacturing within industry and government agencies.
A tour of facilities at Quad City Manufacturing Laboratory (QCML) will consist of demonstrations of advanced manufacturing processes such as laser additive manufacturing (both powder bed fusion and direct energy deposition techniques), spark plasma sintering, friction stir welding, and digital manufacturing
WHO ATTENDS
This workshop is open to everyone, including scientists and engineers from industry, government and academia. Members of the local and extended Quad City Manufacturing Laboratory (QCML) network are especially encouraged to attend, but it will have broad appeal to anyone who works on the topics covered.
TECHNICAL SCOPE
Applications to be covered include: additive manufacturing, casting, composites, computational modeling in advanced manufacturing, digital manufacturing and design, friction stir welding, metal powder production, and spark plasma sintering. The current and potential markets for the associated technologies will be stressed.
Materials to be discussed include, but are not limited to:
- Titanium alloys
- Inconel alloys
- Aluminum alloys
- Steel alloys
- Tungsten carbide-metal matrix composites
- Various ceramics such as MgAlB14-TiB2, silicon carbide and silicon nitride
